Rochford partners with Talpa for songwriting format

British entertainment format creator Rochford Productions and John de Mol’s Talpa have teamed up to create the songwriting competition format I Want Your Song.

This summer, SBS6 in the Netherlands will debut the format, which features five unknown songwriters pitching an original song written by themselves to some of the biggest artists in the Netherlands.

Each episode features a prominent Dutch artist looking for their next big hit by listening to the pitches. The audience is filled with 100 of the artist’s biggest fans. If the artist has a doubt about a song, he can ask the fans for advice. The winning song chosen at the end of the episode is immediately available for download and streaming along with a music video.

Rochford Executive Producer Chris Hopkins said, “This is a new path in the music industry for all of our potential singer-songwriters. Their ability to write an original hit song for someone else could change their lives forever.

I Want Your Song is a format created by Rochford Productions and Talpa Concepts. The show is produced by Talpa Entertainment Productions and distributed by Talpa Distribution.

Geertje Hoek, Managing Director of Talpa Concepts, adds: “Working with creatives outside of our own company to create new formats is something we are focusing on more than ever. Seeing ideas turn into formats and then hitting the screen is what drives us all here at Talpa.
