Ashanti doubles songwriting credits for Jennifer Lopez

Ashanti has been a force in the R&B industry since the 90s. In an interview with Metro UK, Ashanti, who just received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, explained the sentiment behind the recognition of her writing credits.

“You always have to worry about credit for what you do, no matter what industry you’re in, it’s really important to give credit,” she said. “Especially these days because things are so much smoke and mirrors. It’s not that it’s frustrating…the word has been out over the last couple of years and I’m grateful a lot of people know that and they were surprised, but it’s more of a “yes, thankful you know that”.

“It’s weird because obviously you get frustrated with not getting credit or not being properly labeled, but it turns into something you’re admired for,” she continued.

Along with receiving her props for her early contributions, in an interview with The Breakfast Club in 2021, the singer revealed that she would be re-recording all of the songs from her self-titled debut album so she could own the master and the rights. to his music before his 20th birthday.
